I’m Gonna Take You On A Trip So Far From Here…
Earlier this year our friend and fellow blogger-musician The Duke over at The Late Greats one half of the musical duo Coconut And The Duke, released a super cool album of avant-folk-jazz called In The Bamboo Forests Of Pennsylvania that I’ve been seriously remiss in not giving you all more info about. This month the Coconut And The Duke kicked off what they’re promising will be a monthly series of cover tunes set free on the world on the first Tuesday of every month via their blog/website.
Yesterday started off the series by using their unique folk jazz style to reconfigure the DNA on Eddie Money‘s Two Tickets To Paradise from classic rock radio staple into a mandolin laced gypsy jazz gem. Let’s take a trip, I’m in.

New Music : Get Back Guinozzi Cover Police and Thieves
Although a strong contender for worst band name ever,(no offense to the band intended, maybe I just missed the joke in there somewhere) Get Back Guinozzi have just made available for your advance listening pleasure,a song from their debut 7″ single. Part 60’s day-glo pop mixed with early new wave, a breezy, bouncy, ready for summer rendition of Police and Theives, a cover of the Junior Murvin/Lee Perry song, probably best known via The Clash’s version. A perfect accompaniment to kicking back poolside with your favorite libation of choice on a hot day, it’s got me curious to hear the rest of their upcoming album.
Splitting it’s home base between London and the South Of France the band has a euro-tinged sound augmented by the distinctive and enchanting vocals of Eglantine Gouzy. The balance of the band includes co founder Fred Landini as well as Regis Laugier (bass), Luc Benito (drums) and Fabrice Giuisiano (guitar, keyboard).
The Low Files Tropical b/w Police & Thieves 7″ will be released on September 14th, with their full length titled Carpet Madness due October 19th on FatCat Records out of the UK. They’re also promising an Autumn tour. Watch for them.
