An amazing lineup of music for an excellent cause tonight at Tritone when our friends at Sugar Town throw a benefit for the super cool Girls Rock Philly. Girls Rock Philly is an initiative to bring Philadelphia a girls-only, week-long summer day camp serving junior rockers ages 9-17. Led by a team of all female instructors & band coaches, girls in the program learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, make their own band merchandise, discover other women in rock & finesse their on-stage jump kicks. Come on down have a great time and support an awesome cause.
I took a lot of photos and pretty much they all tirned out like crap but here’s few anyway from last night’s joyous reunion show with Philadelphia’s The Friggs at the Tritone on South Street. Part girl group, part sixties style garage rockers, they had the packed house dancing from the word go like they’d never been gone.
Some photos from this past Friday night, Leap Day, February 29th with Scary Monster and It’s A King Thing at Tritone In Philadelphia. Going with an orange theme as the what to wear color of the night, Scary Monster started it off with a rocking set of indie pop songs from their upcoming CD. New Jersey’s It’s a King Thing followed with their blend of guitar power pop, sort of sounding like a cross between Weezer and Nada Surf. Brian from It’s A King Thing was getting shocked by the microphone so he ended up covering it with the drummer’s sock right off his foot as you can see in the photos and singing into it the whole night. Made for some entertaining humor from the stage for sure. A great night of music all around.
Yesterday I featured these bands on 5 On A Friday. Here’s some photos from last night’s amazing display of Philadelphia and New York talent at The Tritone in Philadelphia. If you couldn’t make it last night The Swimmers, The Jealous Girlfriends and Sam Champion along with Drug Rug all play again tonight in New York City at The Mercury Lounge. Go. Dance. Enjoy. I highly recommend it.
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are three piece band from New York City consiting of Alex Naidus on Bass,Kip Berman on Guitar and Vocals, and Peggy Wang-East on Keyboard and Vocals. Their music is an irresistable blend of driving rhythms, melodic noisy guitars and reverb drenched boy-girl vocals. Think the noise of Jesus and Mary Chain with the melodic flair of Teenage Fanclub and some female vocals thrown in there and you’ll have an idea. Or even better yet check out the couple songs below to hear for yourself. The band recently released a limited edition CD3 single for their song This Love is Fucking Right, available on Cloudberry Records and are currently working on a new EP, from which they were kind enough to hook me up with a couple just finished tracks for you all.
For all my Philadelphia area friends they’re playing a show at The Tritone this coming Friday, June 22. Be sure to check them out when they come to your town and watch for their new EP xxxxx coming soon.
