With only twelve days left until Christmas, here’s one to get you in the the mood to trim that tree if you haven’t already. A brand new album of Christmas songs by Chicago band The Layaways called Maybe Next Year. Ten songs, including two originals by the band, it’s a smooth blend of indie folk tinged with just a bit shoegazey, psychedelic keyboard flourishes to make it sparkle. Perfect listening to accompany whatever holiday preparations you may be making today.

[Snowballs via Lizzie and Company]

Here’s a rocking one with a touch of humor that came my way recently from a UK band that I know absolutely nothing about named The Snowballs. But I liked the tune, and you might too, so here it is.

Here’s one from Glasgow UK’s A Band Called Quinn that’ll have you dancing around the Christmas tree in no time, it’s an especially good remix of their song It’s Christmas Time by Celebrity Murder Party. It gets really cool at about the halfway point when the blizzard of swirling synths kicks in over the gracefully looping vocals repeating “let it snow…let it snow…let it snow…”.  It’s one of the extra tracks on the upcoming Fluff Girl single from their Sun Moon Stars album released earlier this year.

A nice shimmery, glimmering number that’s even chock full of the requisite holiday fa-la-la’s for you today, from Boston, MA’s The Hush Now. Stay tuned after the holidays too because they have a brand new single, Contrails, dropping next month, followed by their sophomore LP, Constellations, in early February.
