Monday Morning Blues : Drinking Away Your St Patrick’s Day
What originally started as an Irish religious holiday back in the 17th century has now become one largest worldwide holiday celebrations of the year. St Patrick’s Day is when everyone gets to be Irish for a day, so put on your best green shirt, pour yourself a pint of Guinness and a shot of whiskey and join the party. Have fun and be safe.

30th Annual Elvis Week August 11th-19th 2007
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this at least once this week. This is the 30th annual Elvis Week commemorating his untimely death in Memphis on August 16th, 1977. Taking place from August 11th – 19th this year, with Wednesday the 15th being the night of the annual candle light vigil at Graceland. Back in 2001, I happened to be in Memphis during Elvis week and was able to witness this event firsthand. It’s an outpouring of fan love and adoration that is pretty amazing to see.
[LIVE GRACELAND CAM]
The Candlelight Vigil
At 8:30 PM there is an opening ceremony at the gates of the Graceland Mansion property. Then, fans are invited to walk up the driveway to Elvis’s gravesite and back down carrying a candle in quiet remembrance. Free admission. No tickets or reservations. Gates remain open until all who wish to participate in the procession have done so, which typically takes until the early morning hours of August 16, the anniversary date of Elvis’s passing. Free secured parking at the Graceland visitor center complex after 6:00 PM. Prior to Elvis Week, posted here will be a link to the text of the special information and guidelines flyer for the vigil that is handed out at Graceland during Elvis Week.

Memphis In The Meantime
While I put the finishing touches on my top 25 albums of 2006 post, here’s a taste of great band I just discovered recently.
Memphis is the duo of Stars singer Torquil Campbell and his long time friend Chris Dumont. Their new disc A Little Place In The Wilderness was released in Canada a little earlier this year but has US release coming in early 2007. It features guest appearances from James Shaw of Metric (bass, trumpet, drums, mix) and Josh Trager of the Sam Roberts Band (drums).
Softly strummy guitars, ethereal keyboards and occasional horn flourishes all topped by smoothly flowing vocals evoke an essence of peacefulness and relaxing calm. As perfect for laying in a summer meadow watching clouds flow by as it is for sitting by a warm winter fire with snow slowly falling outside the window.
