2009 Christmas Song Of The Day 5
I was hoping for snowshoes or maybe a bike, but when I asked them for fun they bought me aim and ignite…
The Format’s Dog Problems disc is easily one of my favorites of the past few years, a true power pop gem. Sadly, The Format has since disbanded, but now lead singer Nate Ruess has moved onto his new project called fun. and released an album called Aim and Ignite. Special for the holidays they’ve put together this Beach Boys flavored Christmas single that’ll have you bopping along having holiday fun, fun, fun ’til daddy takes your ipod away.
fun. – Believe In Me
More fun.
2009 Christmas Song Of The Day 4

Home for the holidays is someplace most everyone desires to be around this time of year. Gentleman Auction House put the feeling into song on one of my favorite Christmas releases from last year, Christmas In Love. They also released the excellent Alphabet Graveyard album as well. Looking forward to hearing more new music from them soon. In the meantime those of you in the midwest you can catch them live at a few shows coming up in the next couple weeks.

Christmas Song Of The Day 2
If you thought Bob Dylan singing Christmas songs was a little off kilter, today’s special Christmas blend of the Velvet Underground combined with a Christmas classic from Michael Jackson created by the mashup master Divide And Kreate will definitely have you doing a double take. It’s from the holiday mashup compilation Santastic III in 3-D.

Christmas Song Of The Day 1

I wasn’t sure if I was going to have the time do this again this year, but after numerous emails from readers telling me how much they enjoyed it and requesting I do it again, here goes. I only hope I can make it as fun and entertaining as the previous years. So welcome to the third annual Bag Of Songs Christmas Song of The Day, for the next 25 Days right up until Christmas. Enjoy and Happy Holidays !
There was only one way to kick it off this year and that’s with what’s easily become the most talked about new Christmas album this year, the Christmas In The Heart collection from the one and only Mr. Bob Dylan. Buying a copy will help feed the hungry, as all of the proceeds go to the charities listed below. Check out a great interview by Bill Flanagan with Bob about the record here

You may only know him as the actor playing an ex junkie on the HBO series The Wire but he’s also an amazing songwriter. A couple versions of Steve Earle‘s Christmas in Washington for you today, the original version from the El Corazon album, and a version he performed live with Joan Baez.

Digging into the now classic A Christmas Gift For You album produced by Phil Spector for my favorite version of this song. Here’s a trivia fact for you, this album was originally released on the same day that JFK was assasinated in November 1963 and was pretty much ignored by a public with much larger issues to deal with. It has since gone on to be heralded as one of the great Christmas albums of all time, even inspiring Bruce Springsteen’s cover of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town along the way.
